Role Overview

Our client, is seeking an experienced Senior Quality Engineering Lead for an initial three-month interim engagement. Following an external quality review, the organisation has identified a set of recommendations to strengthen its quality engineering and testing practices. The successful consultant will lead the implementation of these recommendations by establishing a practical, sustainable quality engineering governance model and testing framework.

This is a remote role requiring close collaboration with the client’s teams, business stakeholders, project teams and third-party vendors. The focus is on building capability, improving consistency and ensuring the framework can be maintained by the client or an ongoing delivery partner after the engagement.

Engagement Details

  • Position: Senior Quality Engineering Lead
  • Engagement type: Interim contract / consulting engagement
  • Initial duration: 3 months
  • Work arrangement: Remote
  • Client: International

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Engineering Governance: Establish a QE governance model defining roles and responsibilities, decision rights, quality gates, governance forums and release-readiness controls.
  • Standard Testing Framework: Define and document standard testing practices across test planning, design, execution, defect management, risk management, reporting and quality assurance.
  • Requirements Quality and Traceability: Improve requirements testability by establishing clear acceptance criteria, traceability between requirements and tests, and alignment with business processes.
  • Risk-Based Testing: Introduce a risk-based testing approach that prioritises critical business processes, system integrations, data migration and end-to-end member journeys.
  • Azure DevOps Test Management: Improve the use of Azure DevOps Test Plans for test planning, test case management, execution, defect tracking, reporting and quality dashboards.
  • Test Artefacts and Reporting: Define standard test artefacts and templates, including test plans, test scripts, defect taxonomy, test completion reports and release-readiness evidence.
  • SIT and UAT Readiness: Strengthen System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) readiness, clarifying entry and exit criteria, stakeholder responsibilities, vendor inputs and business-user expectations.
  • Test Environments and Data: Assess current test environment and test data practices and recommend practical improvements to support reliable, repeatable testing.
  • Transition and Handover: Develop a practical transition plan, including documentation, ownership, knowledge transfer and recommendations, so the client or an ongoing partner can sustain the framework beyond the three-month engagement.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience establishing test governance, a quality engineering framework or organisation-wide testing standards—not solely managing test execution.
  • Proven experience implementing a risk-based testing approach and applying risk-based prioritisation to testing activities.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps Test Plans, including test management and execution workflows.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (MS Dynamics CE).
  • Experience coordinating SIT and UAT with business users, project teams and third-party vendors.
  • Experience defining test strategies or approaches for data migration and system integrations.
  • Ability to coach teams, transfer knowledge and hand over a framework that can be operated sustainably by others.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication, with strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and influencing skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with test environment management and test data management.
  • Experience in member-based organisations, insurance, not-for-profit or similarly service-oriented environments.
  • ISTQB Advanced Test Manager certification or an equivalent recognised testing/quality qualification.
