Job Summary:

The Backend Tech Lead will be responsible for leading backend engineering initiatives, designing scalable microservice architectures, and ensuring secure, high-performing fintech applications.

The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in backend technologies, API-driven systems, payment integrations, cloud-native platforms, and engineering leadership within fintech, banking, or payment domains.

Key Responsibilities:

•Lead the design and development of scalable backend systems and microservices.

•Architect and implement scalable software solutions while documenting technical and architectural design decisions.

•Carry out detailed technical design activities for enterprise-grade fintech applications.

•Own backend architecture decisions, technical design reviews, and engineering standards.

•Drive the development of fintech platforms including payment processing, POS integrations, merchant systems, and transaction management services.

•Design and maintain secure RESTful APIs, event-driven services, and middleware integrations.

•Scope and break down user stories into clear, achievable, and well-defined technical tasks.

•Implement technical designs through coding, integration of existing services, and development of reusable backend components.

•Ensure a high standard of engineering quality through code reviews, unit testing, static analysis, and performance monitoring.

•Ensure engineering principles, coding standards, and development processes are consistently followed.

•Provide constructive feedback to team members through code reviews and architectural review sessions.

•Ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards such as PCI-DSS, data protection, and audit requirements.

•Collaborate with frontend teams, DevOps engineers, QA teams, and product stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions.

•Lead backend engineering teams through sprint planning, mentoring, and technical guidance.

•Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and observability.

•Troubleshoot production issues and drive root cause analysis.

•Contribute to CI/CD improvements and cloud-native deployment practices.

•Drive engineering best practices including clean architecture, coding standards, and automated testing. Provide technical oversight on architecture, design, tools driving the Engineering Excellence ensuring greater quality, scalability, maintainability and reliability of the applications.

•Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing clear and consistent updates on progress and risks.

•Drive resource planning, team allocation, and workload management.

•Track and report on delivery metrics, team performance, and project health.

•Lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams to drive high performance and accountability.

•Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.

Required Skills & Experience:

•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

•5+ years of backend software engineering experience.

•2+ years of experience leading engineering teams or technical initiatives.

•Strong experience in:

1. Java / Spring Boot, Node.js, Golang, or Python (with Django Framework)
2. Microservices architecture
3. REST APIs and API Gateway integrations
4. SQL and NoSQL databases
5. Event-driven architectures (Kafka/RabbitMQ)

•Strong understanding of software architecture patterns and distributed systems.

•Experience in technical solution design and scalable system implementation.

•Experience integrating payment gateways, POS systems, banking systems, or fintech platforms.

•Strong understanding of system scalability, security, and distributed systems.

•Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms.

•Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

•Experience using Jira, Git, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.

•Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills.
