About the Role
We are hiring a QA Engineer with deep expertise in ETL and data pipeline testing to join a contract-based engagement focused on cloud data platforms. This role is ideal for someone experienced in manually validating data pipelines, working with large datasets, and ensuring the quality of data flows built on Azure technologies. You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team of data engineers, analysts, and DevOps to maintain the accuracy, completeness, and performance of business-critical data workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and execute test plans for data ingestion and transformation workflows.
- Validate ETL processes across cloud environments using SQL and manual testing techniques.
- Perform end-to-end testing of pipelines developed with tools like Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse.
- Investigate data mismatches and anomalies across staging and production systems.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to quality metrics and test reporting.
- Work with developers to understand logic and help troubleshoot data-related defects.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in ETL/data validation testing
- Strong SQL proficiency (joins, aggregations, window functions, etc.)
- Experience testing data pipelines on Azure Data Services (ADF, Synapse, Databricks)
- Background in manual testing approaches for large-scale data projects
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and cloud data environments
- Familiarity with scripting in Python/Shell/PowerShell
- Exposure to test case management and defect tracking tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure certification (e.g., DP-203, AZ-900) or equivalent hands-on expertise
- Understanding of CI/CD workflows and Azure DevOps
- Exposure to data quality tools or governance frameworks
- Familiarity with BI/reporting platforms like Power BI or Alteryx
Engagement Details
- This is a contractual role for 6–12 months under SmashTaps.
- Selected candidates will be deployed to client projects with full alignment on deliverables and timelines.
- Contract-to-Hire (possibility of permanent role based on performance)
