The Role
A Senior Data Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and integrity of data systems by troubleshooting complex issues, maintaining and optimizing data pipelines and databases, and developing automation tools to enhance efficiency. They act as an escalation point for critical data-related problems, collaborate with data engineers and analysts to support ETL processes and reporting, and lead incident management with root cause analysis.
Reponsibilities
- Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines using Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL), SSIS and SSAS.
- Developer data models and create Power BI visualizations to meet business needs.
- Ensure high performance, quality and consistency across all data processes.
- Work across both legacy codebases and modern data solutions.
- Use Git for version control and contribute to a mature, evolving codebase.
- Apply VB.NET and/or C# as needed to support existing systems.
- Monitor and troubleshoot systems using tools like DataDog.
- Communicate effectively with developer, analysts and business stakeholders.
- Promote shared documentation practises and continuous process improvement.
Skills & Experience
- 4+ years experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and data engineering environments.
- Proficiency in T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS and Power BI.
- Familiarity with Git for version control and DataDog (or similar tools) for monitoring.
- Experience working with VB.NET and/or C#.
- Demonstrate ability to manage or mentor small technical teams.
- Strong analytical mindset with sound judgement and high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken) with the ability to work across both technical and business teams.
- Complete or near complete Bachelor’s Degree or Qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, with a focus on data engineering or other acceptable certification in data engineering and SQL Server
