Position:

Reporting to the Electrical/Instrumentation Supervisor Engineer (and the Maintenance Manager), the position involves providing electrical maintenance expertise to the Basrah Desalination Plant maintenance team to ensure the continuous availability of all electrical equipment in accordance with the Integrated Management System, O&M manuals and terms of the O&M contract.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assembling, installing, testing, monitoring, replacing, repairing all electrical and control equipment
  • Maintaining and upgrading all electrical or electronic installation
  • Performing predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance for all the electrical equipment and for the instrumentation when the Instrument Technician is not available in accordance with the program provided by the Instrument/ Electrical Supervisor Engineer
  • Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, equipment and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of the breakdown and take appropriate corrective action
  • Testing electrical system, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, etc.
  • Suggesting modification in order to continuously improve the reliability of all equipment
  • Assist the Instrument/Mechanical Technicians when required
  • Supervising subcontractors for some specific work as defined by the Electrical Supervisor Engineer
  • Completing work orders and participate in spare part control by filling the issuance documents from the store
  • Performing investigation and draft reports when required/requested
  • Being part of the Permit to Work System as Acceptor
  • Responsible for excellent housekeeping at all times
  • Performing any reasonable duty/instruction from Management
  • Participating in compulsory standby duty and work overtime when required
  • Ensuring the adherence to Company policies and procedures at all times

Qualifications:

As a minimum, a recognized Bachelor Degree or Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the relevant field (desalination / power / water)
  • Experience in reverse osmosis and/or ultrafiltration is a plus
  • Experience in Gulf countries is a plus.

Skills:

The candidate must be capable of:

  • Controlling equipment like motors, valves, actuators, VSD’s (variable speed drives)
  • Diagnosing of problems in electricity and instrumentation
  • Testing, dismantling, repairing and maintaining electrical equipment (e.g actuators, VSD, instruments, etc.)
  • Checking MCC’s to identify problems and testing, repairing, maintaining wires for electrical continuity
  • Assisting with calibration of on-line instrumentation (e.g. flow meter, pH meter, pH meter, etc.)
  • Understanding and determining causes of malfunctioning
  • Understanding and following oral and written instructions accurately and promptly
  • Read and understand PID’s, technical diagrams and electrical drawings
  • Be willing to get his/her hands dirty with “hands-on” approach
  • Working in a team environment, curious and ready to taking on challenges
  • Ensuring the adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Working autonomous and show initiative
  • Following business ethics, being honest, communicating effectively and managing time/workload

The candidate should have excellent knowledge of:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Methods, practices, materials, tools, equipment used in electricity
  • Calibration methods and procedures
  • Electrical operation of pumps / motors / valves and low voltage
  • Vibration testing, temperature and infra-red surveying
  • Reverse Osmosis and Ultrafiltration plants is a plus
  • High pressure environments is a plus
  • Microsoft Office (Computer literate)
