Role Introduction

Kinali Works is looking for an experienced and passionate Technical Director for our inaugural project: an original console pixel-HD action RPG game. The Technical Director is responsible and accountable for the software engineering of the studio. As a member of the leadership team you will work closely with the Game Director and Executive Producer to set the technical vision and direction of the studio. You will report to the Executive Producer and you will direct and manage the engineering team. We are excited to have you join us on our inaugural project that will be released on multiple console platforms. Kinali is a remote work first studio.

Job Description

As Kinali is a newly formed organization, we are looking for individuals with a diverse skill set who excel at setting the technical direction, planning and organization as well as hands on implementation and direct contributions. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Technical Director to start anew and lay down the technical foundations and processes to guide the studio to great success. Having knowledge and experience with the key industry game engines like Unreal and Unity would be fantastic.

Experience and Skills

The best fit applicant should have a minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Technical Director or Lead Software Engineer in the video game industry. Ideally you have shipped multiple games across multiple platforms through the whole life cycle of the game development process. A relevant academic background in software as well as previous experience with Unity and Unreal would be a great addition. Kinali is seeking folks who enjoy the technical leadership and strategic planning as well as hands-on architecting and implementation.

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for studio technical direction, technical processes and technical systems
  • Collaborate with Product, Project, Art and QA to set the direction and vision of the Studio
  • People manager who manages and mentors the overall software engineering team
  • Technical expert in software development and able to drive and own technical design and architecture, debugging and optimization Identify and investigate new tools and technologies and processes
  • Manage and communicate technical risk and concerns and champion engineering quality

Skills

  • Strong leadership and management skills Excellent communication and collaboration techniques
  • Expert programming language experience (C++, C#)
  • Comprehensive game development expertise and experience shipping multiple titles across varied platforms
  • Knowledgeable in video game software engineer areas : gameplay, online, rendering, systems, build processes and UI
  • Higher education in Software Engineering
